Plural Query

Off-topic from the usual "technical issues", I'm wondering why Addict cannot resolve a word query to its correct plural spelling.

For example: "berrys" to berries, "childs" to children etc.

Addict suggestions are always "child's" and "berry's"

I was trying to help out my users with the plural version of a name they enter by adding s to it and getting Addict to fix it, therefore providing the correct text in most cases. Microsoft Word seems good as this but Addict not so much.

Any chance this area of the engine could be improved?

RE: Plural Query
Andrew,

Addict Dictionaries are "simply" word lists - there is no knowledge of grammar such as word types or plurals - suggestions are made from mathematical algorithms based on phonetics - though IIRC this can be changed...

Sadly English has plurals that "sound" nothing like their "misspellings" such as childs vs children.

Re: RE: Plural Query

Microsoft Word knows how to figure it out.

Does this mean you are going to let Microsoft beat us?

It would be good to get an idea about what "state" Addict Spell Checker is in. Can new features still be added or is it maintenance only?

RE: RE: Plural Query

MS Word has both Grammar and Spell Checking, and uses it’s Grammar Engine to do some “spell check” features.

As noted, we are “simply” a word-based Dictionary lookup Spell Check J

We have been regularly releasing updates which have been adding support for new versions of Delphi and C++ Builder, addressing bugs, adding new language support, improving algorithms. We are working on some major new features for Addict 4 but I can’t comment on what they are (though we have no plans to add Grammar Checking in the foreseeable future) and when the release date is. I suppose on the plus side, Addict 3 owners keep getting free upgrades J
